This is the time of the year when we honor the best…the best team in the National Football League, the best movie and..the best children’s book. On Monday, Jan. 27, the American Library Association will announce the winners of the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz and Coretta Scott King Book Awards.
The awards encourage original and creative work in books for children and young adults.
Among the top contenders for the Newbery award, given for the best book, are “The Year of Billy Miller” by Kevin Henkes and “Doll Bones” by Holly Black. I’m a big fan of Henkes and would love to see him receive this honer.
For the Caldecott, awarded for the best illustrations, are “Journey” by Aaron Becker and “My Tiger Goes Wild” by Peter Brown.
I’d like to see Henkes win the Newbery. Do you have favorite? And the Caldecott? Do you have any predictions?
