This past weekend I had the opportunity to introduce my book “Fingerprints on the Table” to young readers at the seventh annual Books by the Banks festival in Cincinnati.
The picture book is about a table that President Ulysses S. Grant in 1869 used for his Cabinet meetings. Eight presidents have sat at this table signing peace treaties and now President Barack Obama uses it as a desk.
I will not forget this event where I met an eight-year-old who shared his facts about President Grover Cleveland. Then there is the little girl who said the treasure handed down generation to generation in her family is a sewing machine that her great-grandmother used to sew uniforms for troops fighting in WWII. And then there is another girl who after shopping books came back and said “I want to buy your book.”
I hope these young readers enjoy and learn from the book as much as I have enjoyed and learned by meeting them.
