My musings on reading and writing

Exit parents

As an author of children’s books, one of the most difficult questions you will need to answer is what age group you are targeting. Is it a picture book for three-year-olds? Is it a picture book for fifth graders? Will it be a series of stories for first and second graders? Or will it be a chapter book for older children.
Are you writing the story for or about children?
And, finally does the child protagonist resolve his or her problem? Of course, adults will be included in the story. The parents or grandparents or even the teachers are often necessary for the setting or plot. Since we are parents or grandparents or teachers, the naturally tendency is help out in any way we can to make it all turn out okay.
But, don’t forget, it is the child’s story.
