My musings on reading and writing

Use what you read to write

By this time, it is old news about the two kittens that stopped the Brooklyn subway for more than an hour..
But for a writer looking for ideas for a children’s book, this should be more than yesterday’s news. Let your imagination run loose and think about how the loose kittens could be the beginning of a picture book.
Years ago, I read a news article about a 140-year-old walnut table that is still being used by presidents in the White House. In this throw-away society, I found this interesting. I started to research the table. The result is my children’s picture book “Fingerprints on the Table” published by the White Historical Assn.
Remember an idea for your children’s book might be in today’s newspaper!
