My musings on reading and writing

Children and holidays

As we get ready to celebrate Labor Day, I am reminded that introducing our children to the various holidays is a great topic for a children’s picture book or chapter book.
What to write about is often the most important question to answer before putting words on paper.
Holidays such as Labor Day, Memorial Day, July 4th are holidays unique to the United States. Why do we celebrate these days? What is the history?
We celebrate Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday of November. But Canada celebrates its thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. Why and what is the difference in the observances?
My book : “The Worst Christmas Ever” is obviously about Christmas. My ebook “The Phantom Five” is about growing up during World War II.
When writing a children’s book write about what you know or want to know If there is a holiday you love to celebrate or a holiday want to know about, begin the research and start writing. .
And, oh yes, Happy Labor Day.
